Aregouni School Reconstruction Project

  • Tear down and rebuild most of the inside walls to create four new classrooms, making the total number of classrooms, 10.
  • Completely rebuild the roof, including a new outside skin and repair and replace the inside wooden support structure as necessary.
  • Replace all doors and windows. Refinish all the ceilings. Rebuild the entry stairs to make them more ergonomic.
  • Rebuild the water drainage system.
  • Rebuild the electrical system.
  • Remove and refinish the building completely from inside and outside, as well as paint it on both sides.
  • Build two new restrooms, one for boys and another for girls.
  • Completey furnish the school, including all classrooms, student benches, desks, chalk boards, teacher desks and chairs, teacher's room conference table and chairs and the principal's office desk and chairs.

In June, 2003, Yerkir USA , signed contract with the Los Angeles based student organization, the United Armenian Students (UAS), securing their sponsorship for the Aregouni School reconstruction project.

In accordance with the contract, construction was set to begin in April, 2004 and end by August 1 st , 2004 .

To secure funds for the project, the UAS organized a public concert, the full proceeds of which were donated to the Yerkir USA Aregouni School reconstruction fund. The event successfully took place in December 2003.

On August 18, 2004 , the community of Aregouni withnessed the grand opening of its newly rebuilt and furnished school.

May this act of the United Armenian Students be an exemplary one for all Armenian students in diaspora. Our homeland and its history will always be greatfull towards you, dear “Students”.

With the School project completed, Yerkir USA has embarked on a search for a sponsor for its new Clinic project in Aregouni.
