YERKIR UNGO's (Union of Non Governmental Organizations) village of Haykavan general development plan includes the construction of eight new single family homes, for which necessary funds are presently being raised by YERKIR USA.
Four of the new homes are intended for the larger, needy families presently living in the village. The other four will be given to repatriating families, including one to a nurse's family and another to a teacher's family. This will insure that this remote village will have residents with necessary educational and medical backgrounds.
On Saturday November 15th 2003, the first Haykavan Family Homes Fundraiser was held at the Glendale California home of long time YERKIR USA supporter, Varouj Bedikian, during which funds were raised for the construction of the first home in Haykavan.
In November 2003, YERKIR USA obtained the sponsorship of the Armenian American Nurses Association, who undertook the sponsorship of the largest project in the organization's 13-year history, by sponsoring Haykavan's Nurses home.
In November 2003, another long time YERKIR USA supporter, the Anadolian Family of Los Angeles, California, sponsored another Haykavan home, in memory of their beloved father, Hampar Anadolian who passed away. The funds were raised, in lieu of flowers and with major sponsorship from the Anadolian Family.
In March 2004, YERKIR USA signed agreement and received funds from the Saghdejian family of Fresno, California. With their patriotic act, Mr. & Mrs. Apo and Rosine Saghdejian became the first YERKIR USA Fresno benefactors, sponsoring the construction of yet another home in Haykavan.
In May 2004, YERKIR USA has plans for more fundraisers, in order to secure additional funds for the Haykavan Homes project.
The construction of the eight new single family homes in Haykavan, is set to begin in March 2004 and end in August 2004, at which time, YERKIR UNGO will be delivering the new homes to its residents. The opening ceremony of the new homes is scheduled to take place during the second half of August 2004.
