TYPICAL SINGLE FAMILY HOME

Yerkir UNGO’s typical single family home includes 3 main rooms, the larger children’s bedroom, the smaller parent’s bedroom and the family-dining room.

The construction complies with the new structural seismic standards set forth by the Government of the Mountainous Karabagh Republic. As such, the building has four concrete reinforced columns and an overall structure that allows it to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 9 Bals.

A. The Basics

The YERKIR UNGO Single Family Home was designed with the following principals in mind:

1. Internal floor plan and accommodations.

2. Ease of construction.

3. The cost and viability of construction.

4. The plan is comprised of a small bedroom for the parents and a large bedroom for the children, internally open to each other.

5. Additionally, the plan includes a family room with a dining area, a kitchen corner and a bathroom with a shower floor drain. The wet areas, i.e. the bathroom, which includes the toilet, the sink and the shower floor drain, are intentionally located at the entrance of the house, in order to keep the rest of the house clean.

B. The Structure

1. The building foundation is 40cm thick, concrete reinforced.

2. Bearing walls are 40cm thick, with the internal divider walls 20cm thick.

3. Floors are poured concrete with linoleum surfaces.

4. Windows and doors are made out of hard wood.

5. Outside walls are erected with stone blocks using concrete as the bonding agent.

6. Fiberboard ceilings cover ceiling wood surfaces, attached to the underside of the roof beams. The roof is insulated with the commonly used dry-grass-earth mixture compound.

7. The roof material is sine-wave shaped galvanized steel. The roof has two small ventilation windows.

8. The exact location and orientation of each house is determined based on several factors, including the topography of the land.

9. The typical YERKIR UNGO single family home project assumes construction on a flat parcel of land. Construction on hilly land could make the addition of certain features possible, such as a cellar or a terrace, but is usually more involved and more costlier.
