In February 2003 YERKIR UNGO (Union of Non Governmental Organizations) developed a general development plan for the village of Dzar in the Shahoumian Region of MKR, Armenia . The plan was comprised of three phases the first of which was the construction of a new school in the village. The village of Dzar new Madteos Dzaretsi school was intended to be the first and vital infrastructural element of this mountain top historic Armenian village.
During the months of March, April 2003, YERKIR USA organized its first ever fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds for the construction of the Dzar school.
The new school building was designed to house ten classrooms and multiple functional rooms and offices.
A. The building houses the following rooms:
1-10: Classrooms
9: Teacher's room
10: Principal's office
11: Library, internet room
12: Entrance area
13: Mechanical room
14: (2) Bathrooms
15: Genitor's room
B. Furniture:
The school building was fully furnished with student desks and chairs, chalkboards and teacher's desks and chairs for every classroom, office desks and chairs, other necessary tables, bookcases, etc.
The construction of the new school in Dzar started in April 2003 and ended in August 2003. The opening ceremony of the school took place on Saturday October 4 th 2003, in the presence of the MKR Shahoumian Region Leader, the YERKIR UNGO Armenia leaders and the entire population of the village.
